In this graphic, we show the foreign holders of the U.S. national debt using data from the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Foreign investors hold almost one quarter of America's national debt ($8.5T).
These Treasury securities are highly liquid, used by central banks for reserves, and favored by investors during market turmoil.
